FOUR Bulawayo women are seeking maintenance from a bus driver who claims to have 10 children with different women.
In the first case, Leonard Dube appeared before magistrate Sheunesu Matova applying for reduction of maintenance for a child he has with his ex-girlfriend Nomsa Gumbo.
Dube pleaded with the court to reduce child support from $88 to R300 – about $20 at the official rate.
“I have nine other children and they all need to be taken care of from my income of R3,000,” he said.
Gumbo told the court that R300 would not be enough to cater for her child’s needs.
“My child is going to Form One next year and has failed to collect Grade Seven results because of school fee arrears,” said Gumbo.
“He had said I should look for a place at Gloag high school so that he joins his other two children who are already enrolled there and are paying $539,” she said.
She told the court that Dube told her he earned R5,000 at Revival Bus Services, not R3,000.
Dube also made an application for the reduction of maintenance he pays to the mother of his other child Sifiso Sibanda.
Sibanda failed to appear in court and the matter was postponed.
Auxillia Moyo claimed $236 from Dube saying that her child had more needs as he has Down’s syndrome and needs special care.
“My child has no birth certificate and has to start school next year. I need to clear the hospital bill for me to get a birth record,” she said
Moyo refused to accept Dube’s R150 offer for monthly maintenance.
Dube told the court Moyo has two houses and a business, adding she could afford to take care of herself and her child.
He told the court that a fourth woman, Miriam Dube, was on her way from Nkayi to claim child support from him.
Matova ordered Dube to bring proof of earnings.
She postponed all the cases to January 5.
