FOUR primary school students died, while 21 others were injured, in a tragic road traffic accident on Wednesday.
All the students are from Karreeboom Primary School of Beatrice.
An Inter Africa bus collided with a T-35 truck, carrying 32 students, at the 81km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
One student died at the scene while three others succumbed to their injuries on admission to Beatrice Hospital.
The injured passengers were also transported to the same medical facility for treatment.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the accident happened around 4pm.
“An Inter Africa Zhongtong bus travelling towards Masvingo with 59 passengers on board hit the driver’s door of a T 35 truck with 32 students travelling in the same direction.
“The T35 truck was reported to have veered off the road to the right.
“All students were thrown out of the truck and one subsequently died on the spot, while three others died on admission at Beatrice Hospital.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to Beatrice Hospital mortuary for a post mortem, while the injured are admitted at the same hospital,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
