THE Zimbabwe Liberated Girl in Action (ZLGCA), an affiliate of the ruling party Zanu PF, has launched a five-day free driving lessons and safety training programme for Bulawayo girls and women.

The initiative to offer driving lessons and safety training to Bulawayo girls and women is in partnership with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and started on Monday.

It ends on Friday.

“The programme is far more than learning the rules of the road, but is about empowering girls and women. ZLGCA is worried by the increased road traffic fatalities, especially during the just-ended festive season, and we felt compelled to do something about it.

“Road safety training and learners’ licence training are crucial in the reduction of these avoidable, tragic road traffic accidents,” said ZLGCA chairperson Ms Anna Mabhena during the programme’s launch on Monday.

“We are proud of our partnership with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe to launch the free provisional driving and road safety training programme for Bulawayo girls and women,” said Ms Mabhena.

170 girls and women have registered for the free driving lessons and safety training programme.

“President Mnangagwa has consistently championed the empowerment of women as a pillar of the Second Republic, and we are taking a leaf from his mantra that ‘no one and no place will be left behind.

“When we equip a girl or a woman with skills, we are giving them a lifeline to empower themselves and contribute to the development of the country,” she said.
