LEONARD Dembo’s loyal fans and villagers in Chirumanzu will get free entertainment at Chaka Growth Point on Sunday.
Dembo’s family members will remember the late icon with a free musical show.
The Barura Express founder died on April 9, 1996.
And, 27 years after his death, Dembo’s music still resonates with millions of fans across the country.
Unlike other commemorations where families of late music legends will be desperate to cash in, the Dembo family has decided to give fans free entertainment.
Chairman of the organising committee and family friend, Wellington Mpandare, said they will celebrate this year’s anniversary in a unique way.
“On Saturday, the family will hold a private function at their rural home but on Sunday it will be music at Chaka Growth Point.
“We decided to hold this event at Chaka as a way of thanking fans for their support.
“It’s going to be a free show where we want fans to come in their numbers and celebrate the late icon’s legacy without paying a fee to watch his sons Tendai and Morgan in action,” he said.
Mpandare, who once managed Tendai and Morgan, has become part and parcel of the Dembo family.
“When I see Mai Dembo, I take her for my mother because I am close to the family.
“I once managed the boys and I have been sponsoring them but my busy schedule no longer allows me to be there for them all the time.
“The family selected me to chair the committee and I am happy that everything is well on course,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Tendai.
“We have covered all the ground work and we are just waiting for the big moment to come and celebrate.
“As has become the norm, we will hold a private event for the family before we hold a free show at Chaka,” he said.
