In a statement, Zanu-PF political commissar Cde Webster Shamu expressed sadness over Cde Masiyanise’s death saying she had played a big role in caring for Zimbabwean cadres during the liberation struggle.
“She looked after more than 500 Zanla cadres at the Makeni Post in Zambia during the liberation struggle.
“She took great care of a host of senior Government officials including the late Governor Cde Herbert Mahlaba, late Cde Maynard Negidi Muzariri, Colonel Christian Katsande and several others.
“She even looked after Mai Tongogara, and Vice President Joice Mujuru’s first-born daughter when she had left for the war-front,” he said. Mrs Masiyanise was the vice-chairperson of Zanu-PF
Waterfalls District One at the time of her death. She was one of the founding members of the Women’s League in Lusaka, and subsequently landed a role as the chairlady for the Lusaka Province until independence in 1980. Cde Masiyanise is survived by her husband, five children and 18 grandchildren.
