RESIDENTS can finally sleep without hugging their fridges after police swooped on a slippery gang accused of turning homes into midnight supermarkets.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to a string of cheeky break ins that left cupboards crying and lounges looking like showrooms after a clearance sale, in Masvingo.
Peace Mandizvidza (32), Edward Sibanda (27), Tapiwa Tagwirei (27) and Kumbulani Sibanda (25), allegedly made a habit of visiting houses only when owners were away, helping themselves to everything from televisions to blankets like they were shopping with invisible trolleys.
The gang always made sure to raid refrigerators.
National police spokesperson commissioner Paul Nyathi said, in a statement, that investigators tied the four to 10 cases of unlawful entry and theft between December 2025 and April 2026, with stolen goods worth about US$14 330.
The long arm of the law reached out and caught them with property that they had liberated from various residents, without permission.
Officers tracked them down and recovered property valued at US$10 305, including two television sets, a deep freezer and piles of blankets that were probably warming the wrong people.
The suspects had enough goodies to start their own appliance shop, minus the receipts.
Comm Nyathi warned residents to stay alert and lock up properly, saying criminals are always window shopping for easy targets.
