FC Platinum coach Joel Luphahla is refusing to press the panic button ahead of this weekend’s blockbuster showdown against reigning champions Scotland FC, insisting his side will treat the fiery clash “like any other game”.
But make no mistake, this is no ordinary dance.
The platinum miners are desperate to bounce back after a frustrating goalless draw against newcomers Agama, a match where chances came and went like free Wi-Fi.
On the other side, Scotland FC arrive wounded after suffering their first defeat of the season, a 2-1 smackdown at the hands of Simba Bhora FC.
Now the stage is perfectly set for a sizzling title race at FC Platinum Stadium, with emotions expected to boil over.
Adding extra spice to the clash is the return of Norman Mapeza, the former FC Platinum mastermind now steering Scottland FC’s title machine.
Fans are already sharpening their voices for what promises to be a tactical chess match mixed with Premiership-street-fighting.
Despite the pressure, Luphahla says his troops must avoid turning the match into a mental mountain.
“For us it’s just another game,” said the calm-talking coach.
“We don’t want players to overthink because when pressure enters the mind, mistakes enter the pitch.”
Luphahla admitted his side has been guilty of creating beautiful attacks before finishing like men trying to score blindfolded.
“We are playing good football but sometimes we pressure ourselves too much. The boys want to win badly and end up forcing things,” he said.
The former Warriors star believes composure, not panic, will be the key to unlocking Scotland’s defence.
His message to the squad this week has reportedly been simple: cool heads, sharp finishing and no drama in front of goal.
With both clubs eyeing championship glory, Sunday’s clash already carries the feel of a cup final served extra hot.
If the miners finally remember where the goalposts are, Scottland FC could be in for a very long afternoon in Zvishavane.
