Freight company loses US$37k to armed robber

ARMED robbers on Monday pounced at a freight company, Customs Services’ office along Coventry Road in Workington and went away with US$27 120.

Two armed robbers were reported to have searched a Guard Alert security guard, took his panic button, main gate keys and force marched him to the back of the premises.

The robbers went to the first floor and forced open the Managing Director’s office and opened the safe using explosives.

Police are investigating the matter.
