SOUTH Africa-based pop and RnB artiste, Fresh the Charmer (born Freddy Tapiwa Chipangura) has remixed Makhadzi’s popular Ghanama song by giving it a Shona touch.

Makhadzi, South Africa’s Queen of Bolo House Music is known for churning out hit after hit including songs Murahu, Maxaka, Mjolo and Riya Vhenda.

In an interview, Fresh The Charmer said he is not slowing down as he is eyeing to raise the Zimbabwean flag.

“After releasing my second album titled The Beloved Ones in February, I decided to up my game by pursuing collaborations. A lot of artistes including Makhadzi, Dough Major, R Peels and Kae Chaps agreed to work with me.

“It was a miracle that I managed to talk to Makhadzi directly,” said Fresh The Charmer.

He said working on the Ghanama remix was a smooth flow.

The original song has been well received by many because of its storyline which talks about one feeling hopeless because of their love and work life, something that most can totally relate with.

“I added verses in Shona on the remix. The song title means falling and in Shona it’s kudonha. The whole story is about personal love and work experience,” said Fresh The Charmer.

The artiste said after the release of the remix that has garnered over 5 000 streams on Audiomack, he went on to do a Shona cover for the song. The two projects are trending online.

“Ghanama remix doesn’t have a video yet, but we’ll work on one once we get the resources,” said Fresh The Charmer.
Fresh The Charmer has also collaborated with Dough Major on the track Saved Me. Dough Major is known for his tracks Uchandida Iwe, Gotta Get and Ndini Party.

He said the song was inspired by a friend who was involved in an accident and had his life spared by the Almighty.

“When my friend almost died, I realised how fragile life is. I briefed Dough Major about this incident and we decided to come up with this song in appreciation of what the good Lord has been doing in our lives other than always looking at the bad things.

“This is why we named the song Saved Me. It’s scheduled to be released this month and the video a little later.” – @mthabisi_mthire
