THE saying ‘the sky’s the limit’ rings true for Nobuhle Lindelwa Ntaisi (41) from Bulawayo. With just US$20, she started her company Nobby’s Snax, which has grown into a successful business.

Born and bred in Harare, her biltong business started in 2012 and she officially registered it in 2019.

Nobby’s Snax Company produces, supplies, and distributes biltong to areas including Gwanda, Hwange, Zvishavane, and Harare. In a world where most women are not very career-driven, Ntaisi, a journalist with a drive for something new, decided to embark on a different career path, becoming an entrepreneur.

In an interview with B-Metro Ntaisi said she started her business after noticing a gap in the market as most establishments did not supply biltong.

“I started my business after noticing a gap in the market. There just weren’t many places offering high-quality, locally sourced biltong at a reasonable price. I saw an opportunity to create a brand that catered to people who appreciate traditional Zimbabwean flavors,” she said.

Driven by the desire to share the unique flavours of Zimbabwe with the world, Ntaisi aspires to turn Nobby’s Snax into a global company.

“We go for the best quality of meat, and we offer a variety of products with different flavours. We have biltong cakes, biltong muffins, biltong pops and biltong snuff in our products. I wish Nobby’ Snax to be a global company. I want people to walk into a snack shop in France and find Nobby’ Snax biltong, walk to a shop in Mutare and find Nobby’ Snax,’’ she said.

Ntaisi went on to explain the challenges she faced.

“Establishing a brand presence is difficult, as consumers often hesitate to trust new businesses. Sourcing high-quality ingredients is also another hurdle, as my commitment is to use fresh meat for superior biltong. This contrasted with some competitors who tend to use cheap quality meat resulting in cheaper products that might initially attract customers,” she said.
