HE’S packing his gloves and dreams. And he’s America-bound.
Zebra Revolution shot-stopper Gerald Sibanda is headed to the USA, landing a life-changing scholarship at Texas College after shining like a diamond at last year’s Vision2Africa trials.
The former Zimbabwe Under-17 national team goalkeeper is set to swap the dusty local fields for world-class college pitches in the Lone Star State.
“I’m over the moon!” beamed the ecstatic 20-year-old. “This opportunity means everything to me. I want to thank Vision2Africa, coach Mkhokheli Dube, my teammates, and most importantly, my parents. Without their support, I wouldn’t be here.”
From humble beginnings at Flame Stars under the guidance of Humphrey “Mzizi” Maseva, to stints with FMSA, Bosso90, and now Zebra Revolution, Sibanda’s gloves have always had a date with destiny.
He now joins fellow Zimbabweans Tatenda Zowa and Gracious Mumpande at Texas College, turning the Southern States into a hotbed of local talent.
A former intern at the Zimpapers Sports Hub, Sibanda has always had one eye on the game and one on the future. And now, both visions are coming to life.
Vision2Africa, the group behind the trials, is making serious waves across Southern Africa. Their mission? Use sport and education to transform lives and unlock potential in young stars who would otherwise go unnoticed.
“We have no doubt Gerald will make Bulawayo and Zimbabwe proud. His journey is just beginning. Keep working, keep believing,” said Vision2Africa in a statement.
Founded by former Highlanders forward Mkhokheli Dube, Zebra Revolution has become a launchpad for youth empowerment. With co-founders Nyasha Dube and Sali Mugala, the trio has turned Zebra into a talent factory that doesn’t just train footballers, it shapes lives.
“This move is what we live for. Creating doors where there were none,” said Dube. “Gerald’s move shows young players that the dream is alive and reachable.”
Sibanda’s story is not just about crossing oceans. It’s about breaking barriers, proving that local boys with discipline, talent and support can punch their ticket to greatness.
And just like that, another Zebra gets his wings.
