FORMER Frontline Kids Band’s surviving members – Pastor Emmanuel Thomas and Noel Zembe – have combined forces for an anti-drug abuse campaign set to take them across the country.
The pair, who once toured Europe and SADC countries more than 30 years ago, joined hands to step up their fight against drug and substance abuse.
A theme song titled “Vhuvhiruka” has since been recorded by US-based music producer Jonathan Mgazi of MJ Studios.
They also worked with two local producers –Antony Gasani of Gart Studios and Forward Mazuruse of Media for Development Studios in Harare.
Outlining their vision, Pastor Thomas said they were ready to save the young generation from drug and substance abuse.
“We have been working on this project for some months now and I believe the time is right for us to take the campaign countrywide,” he said.
“Drug and substance abuse needs real action to be taken to ensure that the world is safe.”
A member of the Christian Community Police Network (CCP), which fights drug abuse, Pastor Thomas said he was ready for some of the ideas acquired at their organisation.
“Through my experience working with the police and other pastors, I have noted that I can still do more to this fight by teaming up with Zembe,” he said.
“Our target is to tour Zimbabwe educating people about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
“We will tour many schools with the blessing of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education engaging young learners who need this expertise.”
Zembe said he was elated after being reunited with Pastor Thomas.
“Pastor Thomas and I have come a long way and it was a great experience working together on this project,” he said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience in the studio and we are now ready for the national campaign.”
“We made waves as young people more than 30 years ago and I am glad that we are back together working on this noble project.
“It’s a project I embraced and welcomed considering that we are now more than role models out there. We can’t afford to let the nation down when we can easily play our part and save the youngsters.”
The Frontline Kids Band was made up of Pastor Thomas who played the guitar, Jivas Dzotizeyi (vocalist), Wellington Masvosva (drummer) Philbert Marova (keyboardist), Peter Bob (bass guitarist), Noel Zembe (backing vocalist), Primrose Sithole (backing vocalist) and manager Professor Zindi.
Prof Zindi doubled as a guitar player when the need arose. Meanwhile plans to revive the Frontline Kids are underway despite the death of some of the founder members.
Sithole, Manuwere and Masvosva are late. The group released 13 singles and five albums namely “Yarira ngoma”, “Kumusha”, “Creation”, “Children of the Frontline” and “Serious Man”.
