Fuel trader fined

TOTAL Garage Baobab in Hwange, Matabeleland North province has been fined US$500 for breaching the petroleum fuel quality regulations.

The case appeared before a Hwange magistrate and the garage was charged with contravening section 3(b) of the SI 171/2014 of the Petroleum Fuel Quality Amendment regulations.

Total Garage was found guilty of the charge and ordered to pay a fine.

The court heard that on 27 December 2024, the garage unlawfully blended unleaded petrol with more than 25 percent ethanol.

As per the regulations, the garage is required to blend 80 percent of unleaded petrol with 20 percent ethanol.

The value of the unorthodoxly blended fuel was US$17 880.
