YOU may run, but the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with you. This adage proved true for a 43-year-old man from Nyamandlovu in Matabeleland North province, who had been on the run for over a year after assaulting two men and striking one with an axe on the head several times, in a dispute over donkeys.
Mlamuli Moyo was arraigned before Bulawayo regional magistrate , Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of assault and attempted murder.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to December 3. State allegations against Moyo are that on April 4, 2023, at around 8pm, he went to Kelvin Nyathi’s (43) homestead to confront him about his friend’s donkeys.

Moyo accused Nyathi of using his friend’s donkeys without permission and an altercation ensued. Moyo, together with his friend who is still at large, assaulted Nyathi with logs, fists and booted feet.
While they were assaulting Nyathi, a peacemaker, Nkosilathi Gumede, intervened to stop the fight, allowing Nyathi to escape.
This infuriated the duo, who then turned their attention to Gumede, accusing him of interfering in their matters.
They attacked Gumede with an axe, striking him several times on the head. Gumede bled profusely and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The matter was reported to the police, and investigations were conducted, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
