Free Divine International Trust, an organisation that rehabilitates ex-prisoners will host a fundraising dinner on October 31 at Rainbow Towers.
The aim of the dinner is to raise $50 000 for further initiative on rehabilitation and re-integration of prisoners and ex-prisoners.
The event will be held under the theme, “Crime: Know it and Stop it”.
Programmes director for the trust Abiton Padera said the move will help prevent the increase of crime in the society.
“We came with this initiative so that we could help both inmates and ex-prisoners’ families by sourcing funds for them to start income-generating projects or social life skills.
“It is also in amalgamation with ex-prisoners who want to share experiences with fellow citizens and urge the society to shun criminal activities,” he said.
Padera called upon the public and corporate world to rally behind their initiative.
“In this worthy cause, let us join hands as citizens in safeguarding our investments by creating a crime free environment through complete rehabilitation and re-integration of offenders in the society,” he said.
He said that donations to be made in cash or goods will go a long way in complementing government’s rehabilitation process.
“The funds will create sustainable projects for ex-prisoners, crime awareness campaigns, workshops and seminars to curb crime.”
On the day, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Emerson Mnangagwa is expected to be the guest honour, while Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development Minister Dr Stembiso Nyoni, Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi will be speakers.
