Fungisai hails traditional dishes

Gospel music diva Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave has applauded different people in the society who are playing their part in the preservation of our tradition and heritage.
Speaking at the launch of Flames Restaurant in Avondale, Mashavave commended the owner, Nomagugu Dube, for providing healthy diet options in the form of traditional food “I am a big fan of traditional dishes myself and I often prepare dishes for my family. I believe people should lead healthy lifestyles and that incorporates the food they eat also. The coming of such restaurants is welcome as it means healthy options outside the home,” she said

The songstress, who was accompanied by her two children, two nephews and the niece were treated to the restaurant’s finest cuisines from the menu.
Also an ambassador of Matendera Ruins, she took the time to explain her music brand that has seen her playing the mbira instrument while sporting natural dreadlocks and her usual ethnic dressing.

“I have always had an appreciation of my Zimbabwean roots and as much as I am a gospel artistes, I thrive to make my music proudly Zimbabwean. Back in the day, in songs like ‘Toita Zvedenga’, I used to borrow the mbira sound from keyboards until I decided to just include the actual marimba,” she said.
A delighted Ndlovu thanked the musician and promised to host more artistes in the future.

“While there are a number of traditional restaurants around, we pride ourselves for providing pure traditional food. We do not use genetically modified food or apply spices but use traditional recipes that do not distort the taste. We have over 14 meat dishes and six starch dishes all served in a hygienic environment,” she said.

The Flame restaurant facility has a normal restaurant set up in one end while there are separate dining rooms that for private dining.
They also have smart television sets and outside in all rooms and braai spots for dinners who prefer to eat outdoors.
