FUTSAL madness continues as the Premier League bursts into Week Five and Six this weekend at the high-octane Fifa Hope Centre in Gwabalanda and it’s war on the court!
Futsal is a fast-paced, Five-A-Side version of soccer played on a hard court, often indoors, using a smaller, low-bounce ball and smaller goals. It emphasises close ball control, quick decision-making, and skilful play, with players constantly involved due to the smaller playing area.
Top dogs Go Boys are flying high with 12 points from five games and just one loss. They now face a wounded but dangerous South Wonder squad, who despite sitting second from bottom, showed sparks of brilliance in their 5-4 thriller loss to Amabhubesi last week.
Allen Munsaka, Nyasha Mhandu and Mpilwenhle Ncube were on fire and could shake things up if they bring the same heat!
Fox are set to pounce on Sobukhazi, who are still licking their wounds after a 6-1 thrashing by Go Boys.
Meanwhile, TNS Rovers, tied on points with Fox but ahead on goal difference, are hoping to bounce back after a wild 9-6 loss to Fox. They now face Nedbank, fresh from a convincing 5-2 win over Amabhubesi.
All eyes will also be on the defending champs Amabhubesi as they try to claw back their pride against Cowdray Park.
Two new kids on the block, Mictech Stars and Mia, will battle it out in their debut match — with both teams hungry for a statement win.
Glen Stars are still sorting their paperwork but will soon join the growing pack.
League chairperson Philani Banda is buzzing about the growth of the game.
“Futsal is now at a higher level. Teams have improved, and with 11 clubs now in the league, we’re looking forward to more fireworks this weekend,” he said.
With the Heroes Cup around the corner and Herentals Group of Colleges kitting all teams with new uniforms, the futsal flame is only getting hotter!
