Future Dube, the talented choreographer behind Khaya Arts Productions is beaming with pride as he gears up for the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) ceremony on 1 March 2025.
Dube is nominated for Outstanding Choreography with Elysium Magna’s Hillary Indie and Salt ‘n’ Light director Tichaona Hero Chikara. He is hopeful that this will be his year to take home the coveted award.
His stellar work is further cemented by Khaya Arts’ nomination for Outstanding Dance Group/Production alongside Salt ‘n’ Light (Into The Light) as well as Afrikera Arts Trust (Ndichatarisa).
The dread-locked arts administrator said his nomination is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft.
In an interview with B-Metro, Dube reflected on his journey, from his early days as a football player for teams like Abangane and Railstars FC, to his current status as a renowned choreographer.
“Being nominated nationally is a big deal — it’s no joke. Just think about how many choreographers and dance groups exist in Zimbabwe, and to be selected as one of the top three is an incredible honour. It proves that we are making an impact,” said Dube.
As he looks forward to the Nama ceremony, he is filled with excitement and gratitude as he said he and the crew are ready to fully represent Bulawayo at national level.
“We are thrilled to be part of this prestigious event, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. We are a traditional group that represent various cultures in Bulawayo, and at the ceremony, we will be dressed in African attires that represent us,” Dube said.
