Future failures, Tshova comeback and tax heaven!

Khuphuka Nasingeni
There are times when the past beats the future hands down.A These are times when you wish you were not yet born, or if already born at least without much in the way of responsibilities. A

Itas quite a rare feeling but a feeling all the same.A We have used Samsung television sets and other products and lately every other person on the street is engrossed in some interaction via a Samsung gadget.

Samsung, that giant electronics South Korean firm, has halted production of the Galaxy Note 7.A The Galaxy Note 7 is a slick phone that made an explosive entry into the market earlier this year and later, literally exploded around the world, leading to a ban by airplanes that warned against charging the phone in flights due to its explosive tendencies!

Samsung has just had enough of the Note 7, though we are not sure whether itas the battery or something else on the phone, seeing that we still own other a?Notesa? in the Galaxy family.A An eight percent knock on its stock has seen the giant company shed off $17 billion of its value within days.

By August this year 2,5 million phones had been recalled. There is this nagging friend that wants a pricey phone for their birthday in a monthas time. I am tempted to promise to get them a Note 7, that cannot be found on the market!

I learnt that some laggards were still displaying and selling the forbidden phone, unaware that the promised future was being consummated with history.

I rely on instinct a lot, like many that do not, however, admit!A Methinks there is some sabotage somewhere and a trip by relevant Samsung staff to Guantanamo or some other such place could give answers in a few days.

I am fast developing a phobia of all things new a neophobia a thanks to Samsung.A I am still using my old Samsung Note and it has not given me grief hence I feel in future I will only sample new electronic products after I am sure that I can be safe around them. And interestingly, while Samsung shares were hurtling downhill, Apple shares rallied on account of the competitoras woes.

I recall the recall of cars whose airbags were faultya many of them.A I am scratching my head to figure out if there has been a major recall in this countrya even of paper plates!A We do not acknowledge our errors but forge ahead and the pliant customers either continue buying or mumble some insult and buy the next brand.

Imagine having invested in such a venture and you then watch your investment going up in smoke because of a chap that messed up the product. Heads should be rolling at Samsung. Move over Samsung as I am now eyeing Tshova Mubaiwa shares now that it is going international . . .

Who knows one day they will manufacture their own car, the Tshova Mubaiwa R7 model. Rank number seven, yes Renkini 1-7 for the first seven years, for example.A I have heard stories of the Tshova from my granniesa How I wish some film maker could take us down that road via motion picturesa I hope some of the early cars used in the business are still around.

In this country we have the cruel distinction of having many vintage cars outliving their owners and several generations.A I still see the Citroen, that lovely car that performed press-upsa though on bricks next to houses in some of the oldest townships.

We could open a vehicle museum and stock these many different cars that are no longer produced in their home countriesa we could tap into a?vehiculara? tourism, and have people from all over the world coming to view our collection.A Please do not steal my business idea that I am planning to run past the African UNWTO candidate, Dr Mzembi for his valued opinion.

You think this sounds very old, wait till you see how some of these so-called smartphones, interestingly, will appear so archaic in a few years you will wonder what had got into you that you actually once owned them!

I keep some of my old gadgets, in case they appreciate in value over the years . . . like the bearer cheques that are now a collectoras item! I canat believe the Galaxy Note 7 is joining Dinosaurs in that other world. The taxman is counting his losses too due to that big gaping hole in finances.

The likes of Warren Buffett, the famous tycoon, says he has paid tax since he was 13, since 1944 to be exact. He was dismissing Trump allegations that he also defers tax paymentsaA Thank God I am not a politician.A I want to retire from tax payments at some age and I hope Zimra can grant me that wish someday.

I need to regularise my personal tax issues for now though. Talking of which; how many businesspeople would make it to heaven if God used honesty and consistency in tax payments as a pre-requisite.
