Gala to mark Chinese New Year

with a medley of performances from Asia.
Invited guests would be treated to a potpourri of performances that include Chinese dance, folk music, acrobatics, theatrical performances and illusionists’ stunts.
The gala show of “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring” was launched by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of State Council in 2009 and presents cultural performance all over the continents, especially in countries and areas which have large Chinese popularity as an expression of gratitude for overseas Chinese.
One of the major objectives of the gala is to enrich cultural life for the Chinese community abroad, fulfil their cultural demand and display colourful and profound Chinese culture to enhance mutual understanding with people all over the world.
In the last four years, 27 national-level art groups have been organised to hold shows in 28 countries, 66 cities with a total number of 190 for performing.
The galas have been watched by close to three million people in different countries across the globe.
The performing groups are selected with a high standard that they come from first-class art troupes like Song and Dance Ensemble of General Political Department and Central Nationalities Art Troupe with famous artists as Song Zuying, Yan Weiwen, Dong Wenhua, Yin Xiumei, Yang Hongji, Cai Guoqing, Yu Kuizhi and Li Sheng Su which have good reputation in the overseas Chinese community and even the mainstream society with a strong audience base.
The show is regarded as overseas Spring Festival evening show and an important cultural brand to promote Chinese culture.
In 2013, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council will send six high-level troupes and four art groups to 29 countries, 54 cities, including Harare.
The show date is March 1 at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale. This show will present Chinese traditional dance, song, acrobatics and folk music to celebrate Chinese New Year with the local Chinese community and Zimbabweans as well.
