BRENDAN GALLOWAY and his Plymouth Argyle teammates were left a frustrated lot after conceding a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Burton in their English League One match on Saturday.
They retained the leadership of the league but will see this as two points dropped.
Galloway played the entire match.
Here is how the Plymouth Herald ranked the players:
Mike Cooper 7 – Was unfortunate to be beaten by both Burton goals. For the first one from Bobby Kamwa he made a good initial save before the Albion attacker fired the ball into the net off the underside of the bar. Cooper got a glove to Adrian Mariappa’s close range headed equaliser but not enough to push it wide.
Joe Edwards 7 – The captain played as an orthodox right-back in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Mainly had defensive duties in the first half but got forward more in the second half when Argyle gained some attacking impetus.
Nigel Lonwijk 7 – The 20-year-old stood up to the physical approach of Burton, and Steven Schumacher was unhappy the Dutch defender was taken out in aerial challenges a couple of times without any action being taken against the opposition.
Macaulay Gillesphey 8 STAR MAN – Was very assured and decisive in his first match for two months as he played as the left-sided centre-back. A much-needed boost for Argyle to have him back fit again.
Brendan Galloway 7 – Took up the left-back role and did a decent job of it too as Argyle went with four at the back to try and deal with the direct play, long throw-ins and set pieces of Burton.
Jordan Houghton 7 – Was on the receiving end of some very late tackles in the first half and was fortunate not to be injured as a result but kept his poise despite that and put in a typically hard-working shift.
Matt Butcher 6 – You could say exactly the same for the former Accrington Stanley midfielder as for Jordan Houghton. Burton were fiercely aggressive in the centre of the pitch. He was substituted in the 54th minute.
Morgan Whittaker 7 – Was not involved in the action as much as Argyle would have wanted, especially in the first half, but when he did get on the ball he posed a good attacking threat.
Adam Randell 6 – Played in the ‘number 10’ role behind striker Sam Cosgrove in the 4-2-3-1 formation after scoring three goals in the last five games but that tactic did not work out for him or Argyle. Moved into central midfield when the Pilgrims changed to 4-4-2 in the second half.
Bali Mumba 7 – A mixed bag of a performance, although there were some good moments – notably his superbly-struck 74th minute goal which put Argyle 2-1 up.
Sam Cosgrove 5 – Was an isolated figure in the first half and then taken off in the 54th minute as Argyle switched to a 4-4-2 formation when Niall Ennis and Ryan Hardie were introduced as substitutes. – Sports Reporter/Plymouth Live
