Gamecocks date FC Platinum in top of the table clash

CASTLE Premier Soccer League championship contenders FC Platinum and Chicken Inn will on Saturday clash in a top of the table duel set for Mandava Stadium.

This will be the major highlight of Week 22 league fixtures after the platinum miners managed to dodge a Nyasa Big Bullets scare to advance to the first round of the Caf Champions League.

The defending champions are feeling the heat with coach Norman Mapeza bemoaning inconsistency by his team.

Mapeza, who was delighted after his 10-man team beat Malawi’s Bullets 3-2, said the departure of five key players during the mid-season transfer window had affected their play.

FC Platinum lost the defensive pair of twins Kevin and Elvis Moyo, who joined South African side Chippa United, central midfielder Farai Madanhanga, who was snapped up by Bidvest Wits of South Africa, winger Ali Sadiki, who found a home in Zambia, and utility player Godknows Murwira, who rejoined Dynamos.

“I am not happy in terms of our consistency. I mean one week we have one guy injured and the next two guys are sick and we have to change everything, so there is no consistency,” said the former Warriors skipper.

Chasing a third consecutive championship, Mapeza’s men have to fight off pressure from Chicken Inn and Caps United who make the trip to Luveve Stadium for a date against relegation-threatened Bulawayo Chiefs.

Fast improving Dynamos entertain Rahman Gumbo’s TelOne at Rufaro Stadium.

On Sunday, Highlanders will be hoping to atone for their last weekend 1-0 home loss at the hands of Harare City when they meet inconsistent Mushowani Stars at Barbourfields Stadium.

Baobab Stadium will be the venue for the game between Ngezi Platinum Stars and Herentals.

Black Rhinos will do battle against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium.

On Monday, in another fixture scheduled for Rufaro Stadium, Yadah FC will fight it out against ZPC Kariba.
