A ZIMBABWEAN billionaire couple, based in South Africa, was kidnapped by a gang which sought to benefit from their crypto coins valued at US$14 billion.
Moses Nhachi Chademana reportedly connived with his South African accomplices — Liam Evans, one only known as Sir Peter, and six others who are yet to be identified — to kidnap Professor Sheperd Sikhosana, and his wife Sekayi Adelpha Sikhosana.
The Zimbabwean couple is based in Pretoria, South Africa.
Chademana and his accomplices allegedly intended to benefit from the couple’s Crypto Coins, which are valued at US$13.9B, which Evans had recovered after hackers had penetrated their systems.
The gang confronted Professor Sikhosana, who was at Evans’ company, known as Falcon Gold Digital Forensic and Crypto Recovery Services, in Honeydew, Johannesburg.
They introduced themselves as officers from Interpol South Africa and interrogated him as to the nature of business he had with Falcon Gold Digital Forensic and Crypto Recovery Services.
He disclosed to them that he had engaged the company to recovery his wife’s hacked Crypto Coins.
Three of Chademana’s accomplices drove from Johannesburg to the complainant’s residence in Pretoria where they kidnapped his wife while masquerading as Interpol officers.
They alleged that some Russian hitmen were looking for them, intending to kill them, and they were now taking the couple to Interpol Zimbabwe for further interviews.
They drove the couple from Johannesburg in two separate vehicles to Beitbridge Border Post where they were crossed into Zimbabwe without passing through the Immigration processes.
The couple was handed over to Chademana, who was in the company of another unidentified man driving a Grey Toyota Prado, with unknown registration numbers, at Engine service station in Beitbridge.
Chademana and his accomplice also introduced themselves as detectives from Interpol.
The two confiscated the couple’s cellphones before driving them to Harare where they booked them at Apartment 10, Tropez Flats, Eastlea.
Chademana allegedly gave the couple a strong warning not to make any attempt to flee or to switch on their cellphones as he claimed they were being tracked by Russian hitmen.
The couple’s relatives in South Africa searched for them at all local police stations but failed to locate them and they filed a report with the police. On Saturday, Chademana’s accomplices in South Africa got information that an official report had been made with South African police and they advised him.
They connived to force the couple to switch on their cellphones and communicate with their relatives informing them that they were fine and safe in Zimbabwe.
The couple took advantage of that opportunity and sent their location to their relatives, who then sent it to CID Homicide in Harare, who then tracked the couple and rescued them.
Chademana was subsequently arrested and appeared in court yesterday charged with impersonation and kidnapping.
