A Greendale gardener who stole US$70 000 from his employer before confessing eleven months later after he started seeing some scary visions has been slapped with an eight-year jail term after he was found guilty of theft.

Collin Mubvumbi (43) pleaded guilty to the charges.

It was established that Mubvumbi returned US$32 800 eleven months after committing the offence as he was allegedly seeing some short men asking him to return the money.

Mubvumbi was initially sentenced to eight years in jail before two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Another three years were also set aside on condition that he restitutes the stolen money to his employer.

He will therefore serve three years effectively.

The complainant in this case was Chakanyuka Nyatanga.

The State, led by Kuda Muza, proved that Mubvumbi worked at Nyatanga’s house as a gardener from 2013 up to September 2024.

He had full access to his employer’s house.

Muza told the court that sometime in November 2023, Nyatanga left US$70 000 hidden in a fitted wardrobe.

Mubvumbi allegedly entered the bedroom , unscrewed part of the wardrobe and stole the money.

He later returned part of the money 11 months later.
