FORMER England manager Sir Gareth Southgate is to host a new BBC show — his first official job since his eight years in the footie hot-seat.
Sir Gareth will interview successful leaders and winners from industry on One Of A Kind, which will be filmed in a podcast-style format.
The former Three Lions star, the country’s second most successful national men’s team manager, is expected to be paid around £50,000 for his work.
It comes after the former defender, who was capped 57 times for England, hinted his next job might be outside football.
A source said: “The Beeb are excited to have landed Gareth in what will be his first hosting role. It’s a real coup.
“He’ll be interviewing successful people from different spheres of industry, moving away from sport into mainstream inspirational stories.
“Gareth is a philosophical man and producers think he’ll be great at having in-depth chats with interview subjects.
“He’ll be peeling back the layers to reveal fascinating insights into his experiences.”
The source added: “The series is being created for BBC Sounds, but it will be videoed and if successful could end up on the telly or iPlayer.
“It’s a really exciting new avenue for Gareth.”
Sir Gareth, said to be worth £10million, guided England to the 2020 and 2024 Euros finals and the 2018 World Cup semis.
Only 1966 World Cup winner Sir Alf Ramsey fared better.
Sir Gareth suggested earlier this month that he was in no rush to return to the touchline.
He said: “You can’t say never to anything . . . but it’s not something I’m actively looking at.”
He added: “I’m enjoying my life. I’ve got quite a lot on.
“I’m in the middle of writing a book and I’ve got several business interests. I do some work on leadership . . . but I’ve also got time to travel and play a bit of golf.”
The BBC declined to comment.
Last month, it launched The Wayne Rooney Show — a podcast-type show with the former England striker, available to watch on iPlayer. — Sun
