RESIDENTS in Glen-Norah A were left shell-shocked after a 3kg gas tank exploded and destroyed the walls, roof and window panes of a house injuring a four-day-old infant.
Two women were also injured and suffered severe burns.
A refrigerator, inside the house, was also damaged by the blast.
The explosion was heard about 400 metres from the scene.
It was caused by a 3kg gas tank, which was allegedly lit in a house where an insect killer had been sprayed.
“Charmaine wanted to cook breakfast around 11am in the dining room,” said a witness.
“Prior to this, the house had been sprayed with an insect killer and windows were closed to make the spray effective.
“When she lit the 3kg gas tank, the flames got in contact with the spray resulting in an explosion.”
It damaged the roof and the walls.
Chairmane, 19, suffered severe burns on the face, chest and hands.
Her aunt and the infant had minor burns.
The injured were rushed to hospital while the matter was reported at Glen Norah Police Station.
