FORMER Premiership outfit Hardbody’s five-match unbeaten run came to a halt following a 1 – 2 defeat at the hands of asbestos miners Gaths Mine in a Zifa Central Soccer League match played at Ascot Stadium on Saturday. The win by the Mashava-based side saw them swapping places with Silo United to occupy fourth spot with 37 points after taking advantage of the latter’s 0-0 draw with Hwahwa.
Silo United now lie fifth with the same number of points but have an inferior goal difference.

Speaking after the match, Gaths Mine coach, Andrew Chisunga hailed his charges and said as the season approaches the end they have set themselves a target of finishing in the top four.

“I am happy with the way the boys played. What we now need is to be consistent so that we can finish in the top four at the end of the season,” he said.

Coming into the match Hardbody had gone for six games without defeat but three matches were walkovers.
Hardbody’s fine run continued when they held Hwahwa to a 2-2 draw in a Gweru derby.

Hardbody mentor Wellington Ngulube said he is now concerned about fighting relegation and will assemble a formidable side to “compete” next season.

Elsewhere, Town United’s fine run under John Phiri continued when they registered an important 2 -1 win away to Tongogara, a result which consolidated their second spot and maintained the 12-point gap between them and Chapungu who were on a bye as they were scheduled to play Kwekwe Pirates who were fired from the league.

Results:
Hardbody 1, Gaths Mine 2; Hwahwa 0, Silo United 0; Tongogara 1, Town United 2; Kwekwe Pirates 0, Chapungu 3; Tripple B Academy 0, Chrome Stars 3; Vumbachikwe 1, Jessie Mine 2; FC Platinum Under-19 vs NM Academy (postponed)
