FOOTBALLERS Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) boss Desmond “Gaza” Maringwa has tightened his grip on continental football leadership after being handed another four-year term as FIFPRO Africa vice president.
The former Warriors and Dynamos midfield general, who has been steering FUZ with distinction, was confirmed at the just-ended 19th FIFPRO Africa Congress held in Cairo, Egypt.
The congress, which wrapped up on Thursday, made three key resolutions:
• Amending the statutes of the Africa Division to align with FIFPRO Global Statutes.
• Electing a new Africa Board for the 2025–2029 term, which now has Teresa Caleb Ouko (Kenya), Gérémie Njitap (Cameroon), Magdy Abdelghani (Egypt) and Zimbabwe’s Maringwa.
• Re-electing Njitap as president of FIFPRO Africa, with Maringwa as his deputy.
For Maringwa, it’s yet another feather in the cap after years of championing the rights and welfare of footballers at home and abroad.
Viva Gaza — the midfield maestro has proved once again that his influence stretches far beyond the pitch.
