THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has moved swiftly to distance itself from explosive social media rants by one of its own, Assistant Inspector Simbarashe Mandizvidza, who went rogue and posted treasonous statements online.
The cop has since been arrested and now faces the double blow of disciplinary charges under the Police Act [Chapter 11:10] and criminal prosecution.
In a hard-hitting statement, Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba assured the nation that Mandizvidza’s reckless actions do not represent the force.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue serving the people of Zimbabwe and the country’s leadership in line with the tenets of the police’s constitutional mandate,” Comm Gen Mutamba said.
Police bosses stressed that the organisation remains loyal to its duty and will not be derailed by the actions of one “errant member.”
