Gazaland University opens in Chipinge

THE United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) is set to open a university – Gazaland University – in Chipinge with lectures commencing next year.

Students will make use of church structures in Chipinge that include the Chipinge College of Horticulture, Chikore Mission, Mt Selinda High School and other rented buildings in the town.

The university’s task force headed by Professor Charles Pfukwa has already received a university charter from Government while construction plans have been approved by Chipinge Town Council.

In a telephone interview on Tuesday, UCCZ church president Reverend Ephraim Ngadziore confirmed the development and said the opening of Gazaland University aims to promote the values of Christianity in tertiary education.

He said the university will be an international body which will offer contemporary studies to promote enterprenuership.

“Like other universities in Zimbabwe, our university will have multi campuses dotted around the district. The church is privileged to have own structures which will be supplemented by rented buildings in Chipinge town. We are calling the cooperate world to donate,” he said. In 2002, UCCZ acquired 120 hectares of land from Chipinge Town Council for the construction of Gazaland University at its 5901 St Kelvin stand. The land was surveyed by a private surveyor and construction is set to start.
