GD6 stolen while owner refuels in Bulawayo : ZIMRA officer’s vehicle stolen at Bulawayo service station

Sikhumbuzo Moyo – Check Point Desk

A senior investigations officer with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) lost his Toyota GD6 vehicle on Saturday at a Bulawayo service station after leaving it unattended and idling.

According to police sources, the officer had stopped to refuel and intended to pay using a swipe card.

“The female fuel attendant told him that the swipe machine was inside the shop. The victim got out of his vehicle, leaving the ignition key on and the car idling. His cellphones and wallet, containing US$1 000, were also left inside the vehicle,” said a police source.

A few minutes later, three suspects wearing balaclavas drove past in a Honda Fit, reportedly circling the unattended vehicle three times.

“They were probably assessing the situation. Noticing that the car was unattended, they abandoned their Honda Fit, got into the GD6, and drove off,” the source said.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, said that police would release further details of the incident in due course.
