George Emmanuel College (GEC) once again celebrated Africa Day in style. When all schools took a rest for the holiday, GEC chose to do things differently as usual as they spent the day and night showcasing different African cultures through song, dance, drama, poetry and fashion.
The students wore African costumes representing different countries.
Each class was tasked by the school’s toastmasters club to represent a country and they presented through any of the aforementioned art, something to establish the chosen country’s culture.
The students took time to present drama, music, poetry and modelling based on the Africa Day theme in an event that stretched into the evening.
Africa Day celebrations are held on May 25, every year.
This day is a celebration of the oneness of Africans. It is a day to enjoy the freedom that African nations enjoy that stems largely from the many resolutions that have been passed by the OAU or the AU over the past five decades.
