THE Zimbabwe netball team have been drawn in Group A for the 2023 Netball World Cup to be held in July in Cape Town, South Africa.

The draw was held on Wednesday night in East London after the 16 participating teams were confirmed.

The Gems were placed in the same group with Australia, Tonga and Fiji.

The Gems are ranked 13th in the world and are only above Fiji, who are ranked 15th, while Tonga are eighth.

Australia are the top-ranked side in the world, based on matches played by November 3.

Gems head coach, Ropafadzo Mutseiwa, said he was not fazed by facing the world’s best as they have played them before, despite losing.

“This is not our first time to qualify for the World Cup.

“Yes, Australia is in our group, but last time in Liverpool we played against them.

“We showed them that we can compete even though we didn’t win.

“The important thing is for us to prepare for the matches.

“Looking at the teams in our pool, we just have to know their style of play, especially Tonga, because we have never played against them.

“We are going to improve the whole team.

“The players need to have good combinations, then we are good to go.”
