ONE of the casualties of the soapie “Generations” has already left Johannesburg because of financial constraints, according to her former landlord and friend.
Actress Sindi Buthelezi played Zinhle, Choppa’s girlfriend who beat an eating disorder and weight demons to become a sought-after model.
She has left the City of Gold for Durban because she could no longer pay rent and was embroiled in a nasty spat over money with her landlady – musician Vuyiseka Makapela, aka VGM.

A source in her circle said Buthelezi, believed to be pregnant, got kicked out of her flat along with her boyfriend, known only as Kamo, earlier in the year. The two then moved into Makapela’s apartment in Marshalltown, Johannesburg, in June and agreed to move out in December.

“She begged her for a place to stay after she was kicked out from where she lived before. She rented from Vuyiseka, but two weeks ago Sindi demanded her R3 000 deposit from her without notice.

“She even threatened that she would involve the police and lawyers. She said she needed the money to go back to Durban because she could not afford to live there anymore,” the source said.

Makapela confirmed the squabble and said she gave Buthelezi her deposit through her boyfriend, Kamo, just to get her out of her life.
“I was scared of her because of the threatening texts she sent me. She was so violent in the SMSes and I was afraid she would attack me.

“I [also] refunded her because I felt sorry for her after her boyfriend told me to have mercy on her because she is pregnant .
“Toilet seats and other things were broken in my flat, [but] I did not care and I just wished them well. She left before him. He packed and moved out because it was month end,” said Makapela.

“When I met her around June, she told me that she needed a place that is close to Auckland Park, where she worked.
“We agreed that she would stay at my place until December.

“Everything was okay until she called me two weeks ago saying that she was out of work and wanted her deposit, without notice. I was at a gig in Eastern Cape and I told her that it was in the middle of the month. She said she was desperate to leave Jo’burg because she did not have money and talked about a theatre job in Durban.”

A cagey Buthelezi confirmed that she had left Johannesburg, and said the clash over money was a “misunderstanding”. She insisted she was doing well and that she got her money from Makapela.

“There was an issue with the lease. I was renting and she got a new place when I moved in. I got my money and the whole thing is over.”
Both Buthelezi and Kamo denied that she was pregnant. She, however, would not comment on “Generations”, instead referring all questions to her manager “Sbu”, whose surname she did not know. — Sowetan.
