GEO Pomona Waste Management chief executive officer and executive chairman Mr Dilesh Nguwaya has been conferred with a professional honorary doctorate in leadership and management from the City University of Paris.
He was awarded the degree at a colourful ceremony in London on Friday afternoon.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Nguwaya dedicated the award to President Mnangagwa for championing large-scale reforms in Zimbabwe.
“It’s a pleasure to be here in London today for this prestigious ceremony,” he said.
“I send you all the warmest of love from Zimbabwe and take the opportunity to appreciate the honour accorded to me by the Leaders Without Borders Development Centre.
“Allow me to acknowledge the presence of the centre’s principal founder, Dr Hillary Emoh.
With uttermost humility, I accept the conferment of this professional honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Management from the City University of Paris, France as well as the 9th Prestigious Leaders Without Boarder International Honors, under the category: Award for Global Excellence – Business Enterprise and Corporate Global Governance.”

Dr Nguwaya said Geo Pomona Waste Management is a testament to President Mnangagwa’s development-focused leadership.
“I dedicate this award to the positive reforms taking place in Zimbabwe under the Second Republic, led by His Excellency, President Dr ED Mnangagwa, who is advocating for the adoption of innovative responses to waste management,” he said.
“We have become a leading innovator in waste management solutions in Zimbabwe, creating jobs and contributing to a cleaner environment and energy security thrust.
“I am greatly honoured to be recognised for the leadership qualities and development emanating from the enabling environment for sustainable solutions. “The award underscores the importance of waste management as a sector for addressing global challenges like climate change.”
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the UK Colonel (Rtd) Christian Katsande congratulated Dr Nguwaya for successfully leading the establishment of the GEO Pomona Waste Management Plant, which is a testament to the gains in addressing environmental challenges posed by Waste.
“Today, we have among us Dr Nguwaya, an innovator who had refused to be defined by norms and created the Geo-Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd, a company that offers long-term and sustainable environmental solutions through the innovative technology of waste-to-energy plants,” he said.
“The project focuses on a well-organized path for health, safety, and the environment, considering the best practices in this field.

“This project aims to transform the Pomona dumpsite into a modern urban waste management facility for the City of Harare and its residents, elevating its urban waste disposal capabilities to modern standards.”
Ambassador Katsande said Dr Nguwaya’s project is evidence of the positive reforms taking place in Zimbabwe, in line with National Development Strategy 1.
“I wish to emphasise the foreign policy thrust spearhead by His Excellency the President Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa in economic diplomacy,” he said.
“Under the Second Republic, the once frost relations between Zimbabwe and United Kingdom have thawed significantly resulting in the increase in volumes of trade notable an increase by 76 percent in the last twelve months.
“We have also seen an increase in tourists.”
