Geo Pomona Waste Management company and Ghana’s Jospong Group have consolidated their relations and are set for more collaboration in waste management.
This follows a recent trip to Ghana by a Geo Pomona team to exchange notes with their counterparts. The trip has been described as a resounding success.
The Asian African Consortium, a subsidiary of the Jospong group of companies, was in Zimbabwe last month and Geo Pomona Waste Management reciprocated with its own visit.
Geo Pomona executive chairman and chief executive officer Mr Dilesh Nguwaya said the trip had set the tone for the upscaling of relations between the two firms.
“We are greatly honoured to have received this invitation by the Jospong Group to Accra to gain insights into the business operations of that group and find areas for collaboration as we cement ties between Zimbabwe and Ghana.
“During our four-day visit we managed to visit Zoomlion Transfer Point, Accra Compost Plant (ACARP), a landfill, JA Plant Pool GH, Zoomlion Workshop, Sewage Systems Ghana Ltd, Universal Plastic Products & Recycling Ltd, Zoomlion Head Office and Workshop, Universal Plastic Processing (UPPR), Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant (KCARP) in Ashanti.”
Mr Nguwaya said both waste management firms had similarities in their operations, something which was encouraging to note. Going forward, the two firms would collaborate in their waste management operations.
“Some of the key similarities we found is that they are also encapsulating existing waste just like what we are doing. This shows that encapsulation is a widely used practice in waste management. They also have a weighbridge used to measure waste coming in just like us.
“In terms of key learnings, there is quite a lot we learnt and we are looking forward to collaborating with them. We had an insightful debriefing session with Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, founder and the executive chairman of the Jospong Group of companies. He expressed great enthusiasm to work with us,” he said.
Mr Nguwaya said the Second Republic had supported the project while giving a summary of the work that the waste management firm is doing.
Geo Pomona has transformed a dumpsite that was once a big health hazard into a state-of-the-art waste management site.
Jospong Group of Companies is a giant corporate in Ghana and has subsidiaries in several sectors including environmental sanitation which covers over 60 percent of the group’s operations.
Zimbabwean Ambassador to Ghana Ambassador Kufa Chinoza joined the Geo Pomona delegation together with Engineer Amos Marawa.
