Get ready for Easter

The Easter holiday is beckoning and as this year it coincides with the national Independence celebrations, many are already making big plans for the celebration.
While Easter is about the crucification and the ultimate rising up of Jesus from the dead, the holiday — the second-most celebrated holiday on the Christian calendar after Christmas — presents an opportunity for fun and pleasure lovers to indulge themselves.

It being one of the longest holidays on the calendar, stretching for a good three days, that alone means that people will have enough time to please their whims.

Churches will be packed to overflowing, and with the latest trend of new ministries that are sprouting up in Zimbabwe at a precipitous rate, this year’s Easter holiday will without doubt be celebrated in style.

It is also an opportunity for some congregates who are fashion-inclined to show-off their fancy wardrobes, with some going that extra mile in shopping clothes specifically for this holiday.

While candles will be burning in the numerous churches, it is also a time when merry-makers drown themselves in pleasure considering that they will be away from the demanding workplace and there will a lot of fun-filled activities taking place around town. For artistes, it is that time when they cash in on the numerous shows they will be holding and show-goers will be in an obliging mood and will be ready to part with their cash to attend these shows and also on braai and drinks. For the adventurous, this is a perfect excuse to pack one’s hiking pack, fill up the fuel tank, throw in some ice-blocks and drinks in the cooler-box and round up family members or friends for that round-the-country voyage to places of interest.

With many places of interest scattered around Zimbabwe, it is an ideal period during which parents can take their kids on a tour of some of those tourist destinations like the Great Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls where they indulge in sight-seeing, game-viewing, fishing, bungee diving, in fact, anything which can enrich their knowledge and imagination and also help in recharging their creative batteries such that when eventually return to school, they will have something colourful for their “The Day I Will Never Forget” compositions.

But, in order for one to enjoy all this, it means that one has to make some elaborate planning make sure that Easter is enjoyable and stress-free.

This also applies to travelling during Easter, an undertaking which should be hassle-free by planning before-hand and the first and most obvious thing to do is to ensure that one’s savings are well carried out. Already, shops are pushing sales up for Easter products, with the Easter Bunny as the star of the show. Chocolates are the primary product as kids demand Easter eggs.

Fast foods outlets, restaurants, hotels and supermarkets will also make brisk business as they will be offering a number of specialised services to patrons and clients for Easter.

There will be luncheons and dinners for lovers, the whole family during Easter and offering unique dishes with Easter themes and motives.

Church goers, they have started rehearsing that play of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ which most churches normally enact during this momentous holiday.

The costume closet has been revisited, the costumes dusted up, the script re-written and now the lines are being memorised. Others, however, use the holiday as getting closer with the Son of the Creator and their Maker and will spend the holiday worshipping at church. It, however, should be borne in mind that it is time of excising caution especially on the roads to avoid loss of human life.
