Get ready for some action

Ever imagined jumping in and out of the car while it spins or open the bonnet while it is still in motion. The screeches, the smoke, the raves and the speed with which the spinners exhibit at “Burn Outs” are part of the fun.
This is the sort of thing that adrenaline junkies should brace up for this afternoon at the Borrowdale Racecourse where new and old spinners have promised new spell-binding stunts.

Dubbed “New Boys versus Old Boys” the “Burn Outs” will also feature a mix of music, fashion, food, drinks and fun games for the children.
There is no doubt it is going to be entertainment galore with music from the League of Extraordinary DJs who include Shy Spin, Patch, Ren-X and J Dub on the turntables. The last time the DJs took charge of the decks it was hit after hit with a cool mix of hip-hop, R&B and reggae or dance hall just the way fans love it. Rapper and emcee Tazzy will be doing his thing on the microphone.

But you can’t ignore the fashionistas who throng the Borrowdale Racecourse to showcase their style and eye-popping outfits which leave little to imagination.

The colourful crowd will also be treated to snacks and drinks from the food stalls that will be dotted around the venue away from the madding crowd. The ladies will be dressed to the nines and for once, the Borrowdale Racecourse will resemble a fashion scene either in Milan, Paris or New York.

The extravaganza starts at 11.30am and runs until 8pm with spinners taking turns to please the crowd with their jaw dropping stunts.
As the spinners do their thing on the tarmac, across the fence there will be several jumping castles and pop corn for the children.
And since this is a family show, children under 12 years will get free entrance.

The country’s top spinners who will be on exhibition are Isaac “Fat Cat” Mayor, Shannon “Anonymous Spin Kid” Mayor, Denzel “D-Boy” Mayor, Maurice Mayor, Nasan “Goofa” Ishmael, Majid, Adil and Gordon Mayor. There are two stuntmen Warrick “Dante Rock” de Souza and Leeroy “Kunnie” Greene.

The highlights will be when Spin Kid and Maurice go head-to-head with their father Fat Cat, D-Boy versus Gordon. The 13-year-old D-Boy promises to be a hit with fans since he only started spinning cars last year at the age of 12.

The Form One student from Phoenix College has learnt quite a lot in a short period and with encouragement from his uncle Fat Cat, D-Boy is the one to watch out for this afternoon.

This will be his major spin at Borrowdale Racecourse.
“I enjoy it when I am behind the wheels,” he said.
Fat Cat is one of the old guys in car spinning. It has been a decade since he started out with his BMW 3 Series.

On the other hand, his son, Maurice, is one of the new boys who are coming up a in a big way so when the two take to the tarmac it will be father against son. Maurice has been showcasing his skills behind the wheels since 2008.

The stuntmen, Dante Rock and Kunnie, will battle it out for supremacy. Dante Rock is one of the youngsters who are not afraid of experimenting with cars and he has got plenty of tricks up his sleeves while Kunnie has been there and done that. Kunnie, however, faces an unenviable task of charming the crowd with his daring stunts during the “Burn Outs” jumping in and out of the spinning car as well as standing on the bonnet while it is in motion.

Guest spinner will be “The General” from Botswana, who is expected to add spark to what may already have been a star-studded line-up to the spinning extravaganza.

“The General” is not new to Harare as he took part during last year’s “Burn Outs” where he left the crowd gaping. He is bringing his black BMW 325i more popularly known as the “Gusheshe” in South Africa.

Kunnie, one of the organisers, urged fans to come in their numbers and experience the art of spinning that is taking Harare by storm.
“We invite everyone to come to the show and enjoy fun in the sun as well as the food and drink.

“The spinners will be performing new stunts and it is going to be a great show. It is a family fun day and we hope everyone will come and enjoy with us,” Kunnie said.
