Ghana in town for World Cup qualifier against Warriors

THE Ghana national football team have arrived in Harare ahead of hosts Zimbabwe for the return leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifiers set for the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The Black Stars touched down at the Robert Mugabe International Airport late last night aboard a charter flight.

The Warriors, who used a commercial flight, which took them via Ethiopia and South Africa, needed more hours in the air, and are only expected shortly before lunch today.

Zimbabwe lost 1-3 to the Black Stars in the first leg played at the Cape Coast Stadium at the weekend.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed that their contingent which comprised players, technical team, management members and other key officials have since arrived in Harare.

They checked in at a five-star hotel and will train at the match venue this afternoon.

“The team is led by president of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku. He was joined by Black Stars Management Committee Chairman George Amoako, former Ghana International Samuel Osei Kuffuor – a Management Committee Member and Fred Pappoe, Management Committee Member.

“Others included Deputy General Secretary Alex Asante, Chairman of the Central Regional Football Association Robert Duncan, Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association Daniel Agbogah and Director of Communications Henry Asante Twum.

“Also making the trip were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Evans Opoku Bobie, Chief Director Alhaji Hafiz Adam and other senior figures from the Youth and Sports Ministry,” said a statement from GFA.

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group G with xi points – one point adrift of leaders South Africa after three round of matches. Zimbabwe are last with one point, while third-placed Ethiopia have three points.
