Ghana’s total number of confirmed cases surpassed 100 000 on Friday, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirmed.
According to the GHS, the West African country’s total cases stood at 100 250 with 819 related deaths.
Ghana recorded its first two cases of the virus on March 12 last year and the government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced a number of measures including the imposition of lockdown as well as the observation of the safety protocols to contain the pandemic.
The government also put in place measures to get vaccines to inoculate the population and the country became the first in the world to have received 600,000 doses of vaccines from the COVAX facility on February 24.
In addition, the country acquired vaccines from other sources and rolled out a mass vaccination of citizens on March 2.
The GHS reported that a total of 1 271 393 vaccines have been administered. Out of the figure, 865 422 have received their first dose while 405 971 have received second doses of the vaccine.- AFRICA CGTN.
