KAIZER Chiefs strongman Willard Katsande is the only foreign based player called up to the Zimbabwe squad that is dominated by local giants Highlanders and Dynamos. The two giants have five players each in the 25 man squad.
The squad goes into camp on Monday as they prepare for two international matches, the dead rubber World Cup 2014 qualifier against Mozambique and the international friendly against South Africa three days later.
Katsande makes a return to the national team exactly 446 days after he last featured for the Warriors and ironically against Mozambique in a match that ended 0-0 under Rahman Gumbo.
He has been in good form for the Absa Premiership champions but had been strangely left out by the former Warriors coach German Klaus Dieter-Pagels who claimed he was building a future team.
With Zimbabwe already out of contention for the 2014 race, coach Ian “Dibango” Gorowa is using the qualifier as part of his preparations for the African Nations Championships in South Africa next year.
Reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Dynamos have goalkeeper George Chigova, defender Partson Jaure, midfielders Devon Chafa, Tawanda Muparati and Oscar Machapa while Bulawayo giants Highlanders have goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya, left back Bruce Kangwa, captain Masimba Mambare, Peter “Rio” Moyo and Milton Ncube.
Ncube was used as a left back in that sensational 1-0 win over Zambia in a Chan qualifier.
The team goes into camp on Monday ahead of the match set for Sunday at Rufaro Stadium.
Gorowa retained largely the same team that booked the nation a ticket to the South Africa tournament.
There was no room for the South African based Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat who have been part of the Warriors’ World Cup campaign.
