Online journalist Gideon Madzikatidze in court for cybercrime charges

Online journalist Gideon Madzikatidze, who is accused of defaming the Geo-Pomona Waste Management Company, has appeared before the Harare Magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo.

Madzikatidze has been remanded in custody to February 23 for bail application.

The online journalist, who is employed by Bulawayo24.com, is facing charges of cyberbullying and broadcasting without a licence between 15 and 16 December 2025.

The allegations are that Madzikatidze published an article titled “Geo-Pomona Boss Bribes Journalists, Editors to Evade Scrutiny” on the Bulawayo24 website.

It is alleged that Madzikatidze broadcast the article without possessing the required internet broadcasting licence, in violation of the Broadcasting Services Act.

The complainant is Geo Pomona Waste Management Company, which is being represented by Dorothea Moyo.
