management needs to be supported for their firm stance on coach Moses Chunga.
Chunga was targeted by a militant section of the Green Machine fans at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday after a 0-1 defeat to Hwange.
CAPS United director Farai Jere was also abused by the same fans for supporting Chunga.
Jere reacted with a passionate plea to the fans to give his leadership more time to work with the coach arguing that sacking coaches has not helped the team in the past.
Yesterday Msindo, who formed Fire Batteries in the ‘80s and took it into the Premiership, said he was fully behind Jere and his CAPS United management team.
“I think when you have invested your money into football, the way I have done, you tend to see things differently and I salute the CAPS leaders for their principled stance on their coach,” said Msindo.
“Good leaders are different from the average ones by the way they bravely deal with a crisis and it’s good to find that we still have young football leaders who are able to make great football decisions.
“I follow the game very much from my farm and I can’t see where Moze (Chunga) has failed and I think it is cheap to try and accuse him of being a Dynamos man when he is working for CAPS United.
“We need supporters in our football but, at the same time, they should know that there is a leadership that runs the club and the last thing that is needed is for the fans to try and support the team and also run the club.
“From today I am supporting CAPS United because they have made a brave decision, which other clubs should follow, and I am so certain that by the end of the season there will be silverware in their cabinet.”
Colourful CAPS United supporter and cheerleader, Supa “ZiSupa” Mushonga, urged his team’s fans to stop interfering with the technical department and rally behind Chunga.
“It’s very disturbing to note that there are some fans who come to the stadium to cause havoc just because the team failed to win.
“We can’t win all matches.
“The team played well against Hwange but we were just unfortunate not to have scored.
“It’s still early to start pointing fingers on each other, there is still time and Chunga should be given his time to build the team,” said Mushonga.
While said there was concern that Chunga has failed to come up with a regular team, he believes the supporters should give the coach time.
“I am not saying Chunga is right or wrong but for the sake of our team we should give him all the support throughout the entire 90 minutes. Against Hwange we never helped our team’s cause, some fans were singing some derogatory songs about Chunga, accusing him of being a Dynamos son who came to sabotage CAPS.
“Chunga is working and if he wins it’s CAPS not Dynamos, it’s just a bad spell we are going through.
“As supporters let us rally behind the coach throughout the season and stop interfering with the technical department, Chunga is a good coach and we can achieve more if we give him time and our support.
“Whistling targeting the players and the coach during the match demoralises them and affects their concentration.”
Mushonga said CAPS United were still very much in the Premiership race.
“Defeat to Hwange does not put us out of contention in the championship race, we have only lost four games and we are trailing the log leaders by seven points which is not a big margin.
“When Monoz lifted the championship they lost all their four opening matches but they recovered and won the league.
“In our first match of the season we beat Zimbabwe Saints 5-3 and people were saying we played a boozers’ team but that same team beat Dynamos which makes football an interesting sport.
“CAPS is a team that plays good football and let’s rally behind the team and stop being hooligans,” added Mushonga.
Mushonga also cautioned Chunga.
“Sometimes he turns to experiment with the team and some of the decisions are coming back to hunt us and in the game against Highlanders he put Gwekwerere on the bench and substituted Samaneka and Addu who were playing well.
“We lost that match 1-0 in the end.
“Against Hwange most people felt that Pride Tafirenyika should have started as he is very mobile on the midfield,” said Mushonga.
He also pleaded with the CAPS’ directors to rally behind Chunga.
“The management should not be led into hiring and firing coaches at will, it kills the rhythm of the team.
“Chunga needs time and everyone’s support within the KepeKepe family,” said Mushonga.
