An 11-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour early in the morning of Boxing Day last year after she had spent the previous night in a cattle kraal. The girl had fled from her aunt who had reprimanded her for coming home late, a court has heard.

The neighbour Simbarashe Shoko was caught red-handed by the aunt who had started searching for the girl.

Shoko appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Chrispen Mberewere facing a charge of rape and was remanded in custody to April 10.
The State alleges that on Christmas Day last year at around 9PM, the girl arrived at her Kensington home from playing with friends and her aunt assaulted her with open hands for coming home late.

The complainant ran away and slept in a cattle kraal.

At around 6AM on Boxing Day, she woke up and approached Shoko and asked for water to drink.

Shoko advised the complainant to accompany him to his homestead and she obliged. When the two got into his house, he locked the door and asked the complainant to have sex with him but she refused.  He grabbed her and allegedly raped her once.

At around 7AM, the complainant’s aunt was looking for her accompanied by fellow tenants.  She caught the two in the same blankets with Shoko wearing a pair of shorts only.

A report was made to the police leading to Shoko’s arrest.
