Girl (17) gang raped

Matabeleland South provincial spokesperson Sergeant Loveness Mangena said no one had been arrested for the crime.
She said police had since launched a manhunt for the suspects. She said one of the suspects was known as Eddie and she urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the gang to report at the nearest police station.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the juvenile who stays in Mufelandawonye area of Beitbridge was sent to buy salt at a nearby tuck shop by her guardian at around 7pm.
“On her way back she met the trio which then waylaid her and force-marched her to a secluded place and took turns to rape the girl.”
The girl only regained consciousness the next morning and she reported the matter to her guardian who subsequently reported the matter to the police.
“The girl identified the gang leader who is only known as Eddy. We are appealing to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.” she said.
Sgt Mangena said police had since launched a provincial awareness campaign seeking to reduce sexual abuse cases.
“We are worried about the recurrence of such cases. We would like to encourage parents and guardians not to leave their children with strangers or let them walk through bushy areas.
“They should accompany them to school if possible  when they pass through crime spots or advise the children to travel in groups while refusing gifts from strangers.”
She said children should report any form of violence to school authorities, parents or the victim friendly unit at the nearest police station.
