A 16 year-old girl has told the court how her step-father allegedly raped her daily over a four-month period. This was heard on Tuesday when Simbarashe Mwayenga, 41, a clerk employed by the National Railways of Zimbabwe appeared before regional magistrate Sikhumbuzo Nyathi facing two counts of indecent assault and rape.
The Form Four pupil alleged that Mwayenga started by fondling her breasts and touching her private parts for a couple of months before he decided to rape her.
She told the court that when her mother secured a job at a bar where she would knock off late, the step-father would allegedly rape her on a daily basis.
She said he would give her pocket money to spend at school as a way of keeping the act secret.
The juvenile told the court that the rape persisted and she later willingly decided to continue having sex with her mother’s husband, before deciding to run away.
“Most of the times, my mother would come back late or in the early hours of the morning so he would take advantage of that and call me into his bedroom where we would engage in sexual intercourse almost on a daily basis,” she told the court.
Prosecuting, Masimba Saruwaka, told the court that sometime in April last year, the girl’s mother went to South Africa and left her with Mwayenga.
“On that day, Mwayenga came home at around 11PM and entered the juvenile’s bedroom and demanded to sleep with her and she refused and he went out. He later came back and allegedly fondled her breasts and touched her private parts.”
The court heard that sometime in August last year; the girl’s mother went to Harare and left her in custody of her husband.
“The following day, Mwayenga allegedly went to his daughter’s bedroom around 9PM and called her where he touched her private parts and fondled her breasts,” Saruwaka told the court.
The prosecutor told the court that on various occasions between December last year and March 2014, Mwayenga would allegedly call the girl to his bedroom during his wife’s absence and have sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
The court heard that she eventually fled from her home.
First she went to her friend’s place and then to her aunt’s place where she narrated her ordeal leading to Mwayenga’s arrest.
The NRZ employee denied raping the girl saying they were never left alone as there were always people at their home and she shared a bed with her aunt.
“She accused me of raping her because she was naughty, she would spend some nights away from home. On the day she reported the incident, she had not slept home, so she was finding a way to be accepted back home by the family,” he said in his defence.
Mwayenga was remanded out of custody and the trial continues today.
