THE Girl Up campaign, a United Nations Foundation initiative, continues to make significant progress in empowering marginalised people.
Girl Up has utilised innovative approaches to address mental health and sexual health issues among the girls it supports.
They are on a mission to eradicate teenage pregnancy, child marriages and period poverty.
Speaking to H-Metro, Nyasha Muzadzi, the regional leader, said funding remains a giant setback in their efforts to uplift these young women.
“We are devoted to the holistic development of these girls, addressing important aspects such as mental health education, and we managed to use a unique approach to art as a means of promoting mental health awareness.
“This approach enabled them to speak up on problems affecting them and through creative expression, girls are encouraged to explore their emotions and develop coping mechanisms
“This innovative approach has proven to be effective in helping them navigate the challenges they face and build resilience.
“Having impacted over 2500 girls, and donated 3000 packs of sanitary pads, through innovative approaches, such as using art to address mental health, and providing comprehensive sexual health education, we are now set to launch a Sexual Reproductive Rights handbook for girls to make informed decisions when it comes their health and wellbeing,” she said.
