This month’s edition of Ster Kinekor Eastgate’s Girlfriend’s Gateaway show might have recorded a low turnout, but lived to its billing.
The organisers did not disappoint in terms of the quality of the red carpet show with attendees being treated to luxuries at the première of action/comedy movie, “Spy”.
The event was marked by free make overs by one of the leading make up brands Black Opal, dance lessons from vibrant group HD and games as well as various give aways.
Ster Kinekor brand ambassador Mudiwa Mtandwa also iced the cake with an intimate and interactive show that saw him performing some of his new songs.
“The turnout was not as good as other editions and this is mostly due to the short notice we put out for the event. The cold weather did not work in our favour as well.
And according to the consultations we made, many prefer that we do the events on Fridays and not Thursday nights like we did,” said one of the Ster Kinekor managers, Maybe Mwachitamba.
Now in its eighth edition, the event was made interesting through dance competitions.
Contenders walked away with $50 Edgars shopping hampers, $20 Spar shopping vouchers and clothing items from Ethnic fashion label.
“It is the culture of the Girlfriend’s Gateaway to treat the ladies and last month we had holiday packages courtesy of Mudziyashe Lodge. While the other Ster Kinekors have different activities for the Girlfriend’s Gateaway we usually have screenings for movies that appeal to the female audience,” she said.
“Spy” stars comedian Melissa McCarthy who turns the tables from being a desk-bound personal assistant to world-saving action hero.
The movie can easily pass as feminist film of the year because it empowers the agent’s secretary whose purpose is usually to cheer on at the male star.
Such is the case with James Bond films.
McCarthy however, finds herself on a dangerous mission and it seems as if she’ll make a mess of it but instead, she surprises herself and her biggest critics.
