I-BELIEVE Sports Academy will hold their first edition of the Pink out Basketball Invitational in Bulawayo on 11 October as part of a breast cancer awareness campaign.  Bulawayo’s Girls College will play host to the inaugural tournament, which is expected to be hosted by all provinces in future just like the Zimbabwe National Youth Games.

Invited schools from the country’s 10 provinces are expected to take part in the campaign tournament which is celebrated under the theme “Pink October- hoping’ for hope”.

Allen Mavunga founder and president of i-Believe Sports Academy said they chose October to raise awareness of breast cancer as it is a month to teach people about breast cancer.

“It is a breast cancer month to so we seized the opportunity to raise aware campaign with a girls’ basketball tournament,” said Mavunga.
He said it will be great opportunity for young athletes to interact with doctors on site on how to take care of themselves and prevent breast cancer.

“There will be doctors to interact with students during the tournament, so it will be great opportunity for students,” he said.
The Nketa based academy uses Founders High School as their training base. Former United States based Mavunga played one year of college basketball at Salem International University where he was a red shirt freshman.

Unfortunately his career was shortlived after he tore and ripped his left quad muscle playing intra-mural soccer.
Mavunga ,a former Northlea High School pupil, led them to two State championships in 2003 and also represented the country at the ENGEN U18’s Youth African Tournament where they won bronze and at the Zone Six Africa Games in Maputo in 2004.
