Netball association seeks sponsorship

Mzingaye Sibanda, Sports Reporter
THE Zimbabwe Netball Association (Zina) Bulawayo Province is seeking sponsorship for a mid-season tournament to be played on Saturday. The mid-season tournament is an annual event, which is played before the teams resume the second half of the season. Free Stars are the defending champions as they won the last edition. Zina secretary-general Sekani Dube is appealing to the corporate world to sponsor the prestigious netball tournament.

“The purpose of the tournament is to promote the girl child so we are seeking the support from the corporate world,” said Dube.
She said it was unfortunate that netball had lost sponsorship from the corporate world.

“Netball used to be as popular as soccer but now it’s losing prestige because it is not getting support from the community as most sponsors seem to favour soccer,” she said.

The Bulawayo Netball League has been without a sponsor for sometime now making it difficult to run the league.  All the 16 league teams are expected to participate in the mid-season tournament.

“It will be an open event so all the 16 league teams are free to participate,” said Dube.
She said the tournament was also open to outsiders and no registration fees were required.
The tournament will be at Raylton Recreation Club.
